Sports Bench 1.7 released today

Sports Bench 1.7 is now available for download. This update adds some functionality and sets the theme up to be ready for a big change coming in WordPress.

Here’s what’s in the newest version of Sports Bench.

Added search functionality

Sports Bench 1.6 introduced the ability to search for player stats on the front and back end of your website. Now, Sports Bench 1.7 extends that functionality even further.

With the new update, users will be able to search for player stats by team and by season, enhancing your site to another level.

Team Stats

Also new for this version is the listing of team stats. In addition to showing a table of player stats for a season on the team page, that section will also show the team’s stats for a season.

This will add another level of information that will help out your users know what’s going on in the league.

Gutenberg support for theme

Finally, with the coming of Gutenberg in WordPress 5.0 at some point, it’s time for the theme to get with the program. The plugin has had support for the new editor with custom blocks since April, but the theme is lagging behind at the moment.

The support for Gutenberg in the theme will consist of allowing wide and full width content for longform posts, and styling new elements, like blockquotes, embeds, images and more. When WordPress 5.0 comes out, or if you switch to Gutenberg, you won’t have to worry about its compatibility with Sports Bench.

What’s next?

So now the question goes to what’s going to be in Sports Bench 1.8? Hopefully a lot of good features for your site.

Here’s what to expect in the next version:

  • At least one new sport
  • Team stat search
  • Player and Team taxonomies for posts
  • Added accessibility

You can expect version 1.8 to come out in December. But until then, be sure to update to Sports Bench 1.7, and good luck to your league.
