Why keep track of your league’s stats online?
So let’s assume that you have a website for your sports league. It’s a simple place to show schedules and other information, such as changes to said schedules, statuses of the fields or important deadlines for players and/or their players.
You also happen to have an Excel spreadsheet with all of the statistics for the players. It’s a bit of work, but you don’t mind it too much.
So why should you display those stats on your website?
It can be much easier for you
So you’re keeping track of the stats for the league. You have an Excel file with every team and player and stats for them all. But when another set of games comes and goes, you have to go through and add those stats to the existing stats for every player and team. At best that takes a couple of hours.
Now, imagine that you don’t have to do any math. The only numbers you have to input are the stats for each game. That’s it. Everything updates automatically behind the scenes. Wouldn’t that be nice?
With any good SQL database or sports plugin, that’s exactly what happens. Developers, like myself, have spent the hours figuring out the math needed to make sure the player and team stats are updated automatically, so that you don’t have to worry about that.
So if you can save yourself loads of time, why wouldn’t you?
Everyone can see what’s going on
While your league isn’t watched by millions across the country or the world, everyone still needs to be able to see the stats for your league.
While they might keep track of their own teams’s stats, coaches need to know what the official numbers are. Players are obviously going to want to see how they stack up with the rest of the league individually. And teams are going to see how their upcoming opponents doing and how to best strategize to win.
So keeping track of those stats are vital. And keeping them online is huge.
Now, you could simply upload an excel spreadsheet to your website every week to keep everyone updated. But that’s slow, a lot of work for you and a hassle for everyone else.
Instead, using SQL or a WordPress plugin, such as Sports Bench, makes managing and displaying those stats super easy. All you’ll have to do is enter in stats for each game and the season totals get added up for without any math for you. And the data displayed on the front end for everyone to see is always up-to-date.
It’s a win-win-win for everyone involved.
Makes your league look cool
Finally, having stats that automatically update makes your site look really cool, especially to potential new players.
It makes you look like a professional-type league. It adds to the excitement for your players to see who’s the best.
And most importantly, it shows potential players that, while your league may or may not be super serious, you’re serious about giving your players a fun and great time. And that’s what playing sports is all about.
So, what do you say? Whether you end up using Sports Bench or another sports plugin, keeping your league’s stats online adds so much to your league, and with today’s online world, its almost a necessity. So give it a try!
